James G. "Jimmy" Gantt was the son of Isaac Henry Gantt and Chacy Carolyn Hawkins Gantt. He was born in Gastonia, Gaston County, NC. He had 6 brothers and 2 sisters. He moved to Georgia and eventually settled in Macon, GA. He worked in the local office of the Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company of his father as insurance salesman. He married Kathryn Murray and they had one daughter born in 1939. He was killed in an automobile accident when he car skidded off the wet road. He was only 22 years old when he was killed.
