John Abraham Alger, 89, of Rt., Elkton died Monday, June 28 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Alger was born Jan. 18, 1887 at Stanley and was a son of the late John and Margaret Secrist Alger.

He was a retired carpenter.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ardelia Meadows; five sons, William Henry Alger of Elkton and Buck, Jesse, Robert and Mike Alger, all of Stanley; three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Wyant and Mrs. Edith Samuels, both of Elkton, and Mrs. Elsie Taylor of Harrisonburg; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; five step-children, Mrs. Hilda Lloyd and Paul and Donnie Meadows, all of Quicksburg, and Elvin Meadows and Mrs. Reva Breeden, both of Luray, and a sister, Mrs. Lucy Woodward of Craigsville.

The funeral was conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles R. Kite. Burial was in the Huffman Cemetery.
