Sarah Bartley Thompson was probably born in Scarva, County Down, as that is where both of her parents died. Her father William Bartley in 1857 and her mother Elizabeth White Bartley died 11 Feb. 1854. This information is from the Northern Ireland Wills and index. There is no will for William Bartley as a lot of records were destroyed in the 1922 uprising.

Thompson, Mrs. Sarah Bartley died at the home of her daughter, Mrs, Will Bastian ( Maggie) at 8:55 Tuesday morning. She had been ill for 18 months and was about 63 years old. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the Preemption M. E. church.

Thompson, Sarah Bartley was born May 10, 1851, in county Down, Ireland and fell asleep on March 17, 1914, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Bestian, near Reynolds. She was married to David Thompson in 1870. He died on November 12, 1913. To them were born seven children ; Mrs. C.C. Armstrong of Nashville, Kansas; Mrs. William Bestian of Reynolds; Mrs. J.C. Hayburn of Viola; Mrs. Anton Berg and William of Preemption; John of Clinton, Iowa; and David of Matherville. All of the children and eleven grandchildren survive her. Mrs. Thompson was converted in early life and united with the Presbyterian church in Ireland. She lived a faithful, Christian life and has gone to her reward, trusting in the promises of God. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, March 19, from the M.E. church in Preemption br Rev. W.F. Dawson, rector of St. John's and Rev. F.J. Giddings. Burial was made at the Preemption cemetery.
