MORRIS, LORENZO D, retired farmer, residence Carrollton; was born in Virginia in 1805; growing to manhood on the old homestead, he received a liberal education; in 1826 he worked in the lead mines of Galena; in 1831 he became a permanent resident of Greene County; November 3d of same year, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Witt, a daughter of Ely Witt, one of the earliest settlers of Greene County, Mr. Morris had purchased a tract of 80 acres, on which he built a log cabin. This 80 is now included in the magnificent property of Mr. Morris comprising 500 acres.

Mrs. Morris was born in East Tennessee, March 28,1812, and departed this life March 28, 1842, leaving to the care of her husband four children, John, George, Martha G. and Ely.

Dec. 21, 1842, Mr. Morris was married to Miss Mahala Coulee, by whom he had 12 children, five living: Wellington, James, Edward S., Henrietta, and Mary E. Mrs. Morris was born November 23, 1823, and died in 1872.

July 21, 1873, Mr. Morris was united in marriage to Mrs. Sarah Ann Witt, relict of Harrison Witt, and daughter of Nathaniel Scroggins.

We now draw to a close in this brief outline of a life not devoid of interest. We have endeavored to show what energy, pluck and enterprise can accomplish. Mr. Morris has witnessed many vast changes in the West, and now, after many years of usefulness, has retired from active labor
