After the death of Susan, Jim met a lady by the name of Fannie Meheffey. The following are stories that were told to me by two different family members, Pearl Hall Ashley and later when I was visiting with James Floyd Shackelford, he verified what Pearl had said and added more to it. Pearl said that Fannie was a Maytag washing machine sales person and sold one to Jim. Jim fell head over heels for Fannie. She moved in with him and Pearl said Jim followed her around like a little puppy. Jim bought her everything she wanted, even a big new black fancy car, the most expensive car she could find, went home and told Jim, saying she had to have that car. Jim bought it for her and James said he could still see her driving up the dirt roads lickity split with dust flying everywhere. A few weeks later she and her new car disappeared in the middle of the night. Everyone was worried about Jim for he was so distraught, that some family member always stayed there with him for several months. James Shackelford said he did not think that Jim ever got over Fannie.
Finally in 1940, Jim met Eva E. Dodson and they were married on June 8, 1940 in Garland County, Arkansas. They did not have any children. They were only married 3 1/2 years when Jim died. There is a copy of their marriage license in Jim's Family History Book.
The picture of Jim as a young man was sent to me by Catherine Anderson Delsindico. The picture of Jim as an older man was in my grandmothers box of pictures. I took the picture of Jim and Susie's double headstone in 1995.
Jim was my Great Grand Uncle.
