Mary was the daughter of Elisha Harris and Margaret Patterson. She moved to Allamakee County, Iowa with her parents in the spring of 1854. She married James C. Taylor at Lybrand, Allamkaee, IA on 25 Dec 1870. They became the parents of six children: Orie Jane, Nora, Nova Zembla, Alta, Margaret, and James. In the late 1880s the Taylor family moved to the Emporia, Kansas area. Mary was married a second time to David Milton Minert on 14 Oct 1914 at Emporia. Mary outlived both of her husbands and all six of her children.
