Jason Edward Dean enlisted in the U.S. Navy as soon as he was old enough. In World War II, Jason served as a gunner on an aircraft carrier. He had three ships shot out from under him and came home without a scratch.

In the war, all the sailors were taught to drink, smoke, go on shore leave and get drunk and beat up half-a-dozen Marines. Uncle Jason did all that. He died from throat cancer.

Additions and corrections are rejoiced over (please, include sources).
