Harry (None) Barwick (23, 25 November 1916 Meigs, Georgia) a resident of Sebring, Highlands County, Florida, signed up for his World War II Draft Registration Card (Serial No. 937, Order No. 445) on 16 October 1940 in Sebring, Highlands County, Florida. He was working for America Fruit Growers. Harry listed his sister, Mrs. Henry Lawson Westberry as the person who always know his address. He was described as 5' 10" in height, 155 lbs., with a ruddy complexion, brown eyes and blonde hair.

Harry Barwick (1916 Georgia), a resident of Highlands County, Florida enlisted as a Private (S/N 14057700) in the U.S Army Signal Corps on 13 June 1941 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was single, had completed Grammar School and had been working as a carpenter.

He was assigned to the 54th Signal Company, Aviation, U.S. Army Air Forces and sent to the Philippines.

Private Barwick was taken prisoner by the Japanese when Bataan fell on 09 April 1942. He survived the Death March and was taken to the POW Camp O'Donnell (#4) in Capas, Tarlac Province, Central Luzon, Philippines.

On 21 May 1942, he was sent as part of a 300-man detail to work on the Tayabas Road Project.

Sometime in July he and 5 other men escaped from the camp at Tayabas."The following six men are known to have escaped from the camp at Tayabas."

"The escape party elected Louis Bailey as its leader, and a date was set…" Bailey's plan was "to lead the party northward to Lopez Bay, there find a boat, and begin island hopping until" reaching Australia…Bailey, rounded up the other would-be escapees and left… Presumably all of them died. At least two, one of who apparently was Irwin McVay reported were caught and executed by the Japanese, the others dying of exposure.
