Organized Crime Figure. Larry Gallo was the brother of Albert Gallo and "Crazy Joe" Joey Gallo. He led a life that eventually saw him become an inducted member of the Profaci family, and the leader of what was called the Gallo Crew. The Gallo brothers became dissatisfied with Joe Profaci's leadership and keeping too much of the wealth from their enterprises for himself, and when other members of the crime gang died taking all the business for himself instead of giving it to the Gallos. This led to the Gallo crew turning against Profaci. In February 1961, the Gallos reputedly kidnapped several members of the Profaci organization and held them hostage. This apparently led to reprisals against the Gallos, and an attempt to kill Larry. Not until 1963, with the conviction of two Gallo crew members, was a peace agreement brokered by a crime family boss. On January 8, 1965, Albert and Larry Gallo, along with 13 other crew members, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and were sentenced to six months in prison. In 1966, New York City's Youth Board requested the Gallo's to help them lower racial tensions between white and African-American youths in the East New York and Flatbush sections of Brooklyn.
