Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until February 22, 1946.

Howard served as a Captain & Pilot on P-61A #42-5515, 419th Night Fighter Squadron, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Kansas prior to the war.

Howard was declared "Missing In Action" when the P-61 he was on failed to return from a mission in the vicinity of Waigeo Island in the Pacific.

He was awarded an Air Medal and a Purple Heart.

Service # O-885420

The remains of the plane were found in the jungle on New Guinea. There is no record of any of the airmen's remains also being there. Possibly bailed out.
