WWII - Battle of Savo Island
USS Jarvis was damaged on 8 August 1942, but was able to head for Australia to undergo repairs. Unfortunately, she was engaged enroute on 9 August by Japanese ships and land bombers during the Battle of Savo Island. Jarvis was hit repeatedly and sank with her entire crew on board.
