He resided in Los Angeles County, California prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on April 14, 1942 in Los Angeles, California. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Civil Engineer and also as Married.
Carl was declared "Missing In Action" when his A-20G, which was one of nine A-20's that were on a mission that took off from Gusap Airfield No. 5 led by Major Wells on a strike mission against Alexishafen Airfield No. 1 Strip, crashed into a mountainside in the Finisterre Range due to bad weather during the war.
Two other A-20's on this mission also crashed in the same place for the same reason:

Carl's status was changed to "Killed In Action" once his remains were recovered.
Carl was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
