He resided in Los Angeles County, California prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army on January 30, 1943 in Los Angeles, California. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the woodworking occupation and also as Single, without dependents.
Ernest was declared "Missing In Action" when his A-20G, which was one of nine A-20's that were on a mission that took off from Gusap Airfield No. 5 led by Major Wells on a strike mission against Alexishafen Airfield No. 1 Strip, crashed into a mountainside in the Finisterre Range due to bad weather during the war.
Two other A-20's on this mission also crashed in the same place for the same reason:

Ernest's status was changed to "Killed In Action" once his remains were recovered.
This was his "first" combat mission.
