Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 16, 1946.

Son of Mrs. Fannie Matthews Green who resided in Floydada, Texas.

Jimmy served as a Staff Sergeant & Engineer / Gunner on B-24D #42-72823, 371st Bomber Squadron, 307th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Floyd County, Texas prior to the war.

B-24D #42-72823 took off from Koli Field (APO #709), Guadalcanal Province, Solomon Islands on a bombing mission over Rabaul, New Britain Island, Papua New Guinea. During the mission they were attacked and shot down by multiple Japanese fighter planes and were seen to crash into the sea. The entire crew was lost in this crash however some parachutes were seen leaving and two are assumed to be Sgt. Johnston & Sgt. Falter since both of their remains were recovered.

Jimmy was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
