Alfred Joseph Cushion was born in 1876 the son of Edwin Cushion and Emma Grubb. He married Eleanor Elizabeth Beadle in 1906 and they had four children. They lived at 36 Stanley Road, Edmonton, Middlesex.
Alfred enlisted on 7 Dec 1915 and was mobilised on 2 Aug 1916 with the 3rd Battallion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) and posted to the 8th Battallion on 30 Dec 1916. He was promoted to Lance corporal on 6 Apr 1917. He was posted to the 6th Battallion on 9 Feb 1918 and promoted to Corporal on 14 Apr 1918. He was killed in action on 9 Aug 1918 at Morlancourt.
