Charles served as a First Lieutenant, Company A, 56th Infantry Battalion, 12th Armored Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 26, 1941, prior to the war, in Chicago, Illinois. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Salesperson and also as Single, without dependents.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Charles was residing in Chicago, Illinois with his brother when he enlisted in the Army.

Prior to becoming a member of the 12th Armored Division in December, 1944 Charles served as a member of Company E, 513th Parachute Infantry Regiment while still in the United States. As a Paratrooper he had jumped into San Tropez, France as part of Operation Dragoon during the war.

Charles was "Killed In Action" with the 12th Armored Division near Speyer, Germany during the war. He was awarded the "Silver Star", Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
