He enlisted in the Army on October 10, 1941 in Dover, Delaware and was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as Single, without dependents.

George had fought in the North African Campaign and at Sicily, Italy before he was transferred to England to become involved in the D-Day invasion.

He was "Killed In Action" while fighting in the invasion of France on D-Day.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He had served in the Army for four years and five months at the time of his death.
