Private John Alpheus Goodson, born 14 Apr 1892, was the son of Jesse Jones Goodson and Sarah Ann (Dismukes) Goodson of Kingston, Autauga County, Alabama. Kingston is 28 miles northwest of Montgomery.
Sarah Ann Dismukes married Jesse Jones Goodson 5 Apr 1883 in Autuaga County, Alabama.

John's mother must have died in childbirth or sometime before he was 2 ½ years old. News article says his mother died when he was an infant.
John's father married Eula Houston Gholson 17 Feb 1895 when John was 2 years and 10 months old.

In the 1910 census 18-year-old John is living with his 59-year-old father and stepmother Eula 33, with half-siblings Mary 14, Jesse 11, Marion 9, Sadie 7, William 4, and Ethel 2, in Precinct 1 of Autauga County. His father is farming.

On his Apr 1917 draft registration John was living in Tuscaloosa and working on a bridge crew for the Mobile & Ohio Railroad. He was single without dependents.
Newspapers of the day and Soldiers of the Great War, Volume 1, Alabama, show Privates: Goodson, John A, from Booth, as Died of Disease. News article said he had the measles and then pneumonia.
