During the attack on Vimy Ridge, a shell fragment struck Captain Tupper in his hip, killing him almost instantly. His commanding officer wrote (to 'Gordie's' parents): "We were able to bury Gordie with military honours. The Pipers played their wonderful lament, 'The Flowers of the Forest'. He was buried in the British Military Cemetery at Ecoivres."

A chauffeur by trade and residing on Barclay Street in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, he enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 22 Sept 1914 in Valcartier, Quebec, Canada.

Son of the Honourable Sir Charles Hibbert Tupper, K.C.M.G., and Lady Tupper of Barclay Street in Vancouver; brother of Reginald Hibbert, J. Stewart, James Macdonald and Dorothy Joyce.
He was educated at University School in Victoria, British Columbia, and at Highfield School in Hamilton, Ontario.
In 1914, he sat for the entrance examination at the Royal Military College at Kingston, Ontario.

Captain Victor Gordon Tupper MC is commemorated on Page 341 of Canada's First World War Book of Remembrance.
