Ida was the daughter of Bernard Emil Witter of Gresham Oregon. He was born in Saxony, Germany and immigrated when he was 4 years old with his parents. He married Barbara C. Shoepfel in June of 1868 in Cincinatti, Ohio. Bernard brought his family to Gresham, Oregon, in 1887. The family settled on a 105 acre farm, one mile south of Gresham. Ida was about 13 years of age at the time. Ida had one sister, Louise Susan and two brothers; Charles George and Arthur Bernard. Her brother Charles was a carpenter in the Gresham area and built several houses. One is placed on the National Historical Registry:http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM65H7

The family home that Ida grew up in, is on the Gresham Historical Registry. It was built in 1892 and it is one of ten of the oldest homes still in Gresham.

She married John Wesley Shattuck, the son of Henry Clay Shattuck, about 1901. They had three children; Mildred, Bernard "Barney" and Geneva. John remarried February 28, 1927,to his second wife Adelaide Hope Potter. He died in Dallas, Oregon in July of 1950.

John's nephew, Lewis Shattuck, became Mayor of Gresham.
