J. H. Junk, one of the prominent and influential figures of Rio Township died last night Sept 10, 1918 at the home of his brother, Ed Junk in LaHarpe. He went some weeks ago to visit his brother and the day after arriving became seriously ill with complications of ailments and slowly sank until his death. He was one of four children of Samuel & Anna Henderson Junk, born Jan 30, 1861. All but three years of his life were spent in the vicinity of Rio. His parents were among the pioneers of Knox County. After completing his studies in district school, attended Knox College for awhile and pursued a commercial course, while working on the farm. He returned to his fathers where he conducted the business save two or three years ago when he was in the hardware business and real estate business in Galesburg. In 1902 he bought the home where since lived on 260 acres and raised it to a state of high productivity. He married at Hennipen IL Sep 21, 1889 Leota N Corson daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Corson. They had three children: two sons, A. E. Junk of Oneida and William J Junk, Rio; daughter, Mrs. Lee Gregg of near Galesburg. A sister, Mrs. Taylor Linn of Alpha; brother, E. T. Junk of LaHarpe. The burial will be in Hope Abbey.
