Extract from The Roll of Honour, A Biographical record of all members of His Majesty's Naval and Military Forces who have fallen in the War, by the Marquis de Ruvigny, Volume I., The Standard Art Book Company, Ltd, December, 1916:
BOWDEN, EDWARD RATCLIFFE, Lieutenant, 6th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (T.F.), son of Thomas Bowden, of Sheriff Mount, Gateshead Fell, co. Durham, J.P., head of the firm of Thomas Bowden, Sons & Nephew, of Newcastle-on-Tyne and Manchester, Chartered Accountants; b. 28 April, 1889; educated Corchester Preparatory School, Sedbergh, and Pembroke College, Cambridge (B.A.), was a member of the O.T.C. at Cambridge, and received a commission in the Northumberland Fusiliers 1910, being promoted Lieutenant 25 Dec. 1912. He died of wounds received in the action at Ypres, 28 April, 1915, and was buried at Abbeville; unmarried.
