Born To Vinelandis L. Sheppard and Jeremiah Akers. Was married Nov. 11th, 1941 in Lancaster, Schuyler Co., Missouri to Virginia Ellen Miner. He had one daughter named Virginia Lee who was born in Anamosa, Jones Co., Iowa on 4/9/1944 and one son, Donald Edward Akers, Jr. who is also buried in this cemetery. Donald died in France while in the military.
After Donald's death, Virginia Ellen married Richard Starks. Virginia Lee, her daughter, was first married to Marvin Carney, and had at least 3 children named Kim, Danielle, and Robert Edward. Her second marriage was to Larry Blaine Burkey.
Donald's body was not returned to Linn County until 1949. An article in the Central City Newsletter sites a memorial service was held 1/8/1949. At that time 11 brothers were listed as follows: James, Cedar Rapids, Alfred, Henry, LeRoy, Jerry Jr., Robert, Eldon, all of Central City, Victor and Ralph of Coggon, Fred of Marlon, Vernon of Osseo,MN; two sister, Mrs. Everett Boots of Central City, and Mrs. Alvin Onstatt of Princeton, Minn.
He was born in Ely, Iowa and entered the service at Camp Dodge 11/7/1942.
