Joseph Bozeman

Joseph Bozeman, the 1st child of Samuel and Ann Richardson Bozeman, was born in Bladen County, North Carolina, April, 1756. He was reared in his native state.
Joseph was soldier in the Revolutionary War, and took part in the siege of Augusta, Georgia. Soon after the close of the Revolution he moved to Georgia, not far from Savannah. His first wife was a Miss Wood. They were married about 1784. To this union one son was born: Nathan, October 7, 1785, in North Carolina.
After the death of his first wife, Joseph married Elizabeth Pendleton, in
Georgia in 1797. To this union five children were born. On March 13, 1806, with his wife, Elizabeth and four children, his brother Samuel, and his family, and one single brother, Etheldred, he left Louisville, Jefferson County, Georgia, for
Illinois. They were two months and three days on the way, arriving in Illinois, May 16,1806. In the fall of 1806 they all returned to Georgia. Joseph located in Twiggs County, where he resided for 12 years, (Samuel, his brother, located in Dublin, Laurens County, Georgia).
It was in January, 1818 that Joseph moved to Monroe County, Alabama. Later he moved to Covington County, Alabama where he died September 21, 1821, in his 66th year of age. He was buried two miles, a little east and south from Montezuma, "on a pine ridge, under a pretty hickory," near the falls of Conecuh river. Joseph was a farmer, a Democrat, and a Baptist.
Elizabeth Pendleton Bozeman, (wife of Joseph Bozeman died in 1832. Her grave is at New Bethel Baptist church in Lowndes County, Alabama.
