J. P. M. NORMAN DIES THURSDAY

Well Know Farmer Succumbs Following General Breakdown at Age 78 years.

J. P. M. Norman, well known farmer and ex-county officer, died at his home four miles west of Ava, on Thursday of last week, following a general break down in health.

Mr. Norman had been a resident of Douglas County since 1862, and had a wide acquaintance , having served two terms as assessor for Douglas county and one term as collector several years ago.

He was among the most prosperous farmers of the county, and had reared a family of eleven children all whom have now reached their maturity and have taken their places in the world as good American citizens.

Mr. Norman was born in the state of Georgia. April 27, 1847. He was converted to the Christian faith at age of 18 years and became a member of the Methodist church. He came to Douglas county in the year, 1862, and was married to Mary F. Ellison in December 1869. To this union four children survive; Mrs. W. E. Banks of Springfield, Mrs. W. R. Hale of Arden, Mrs. Ada McCraw, of Dallas Texas, and Dr. R. M. Norman, of Ava.

His first wife died in 1886, and he was married the second time in 1890, to Mary O. Carrick, who survives. He is also survived by the following children from the second marriage; Homer J. Norman, Kansas City; D. E. Norman, Ava; E. Q. Norman, Oakland, California, E. B. Norman, Glenn Norman, Emmet Norman and Mrs. Lz Banta, all of Ava. He is also survived by one brother, Dr. J. F. Norman, of Springfield, and three sisters, Mrs. Nancy C .Clauntz of California; Mrs. Jane Hickman of Milford, Texas; and Jane Mrs. Ann Luttes of Okmulgee, Okla.

Funeral services were conducted at the home on Tuesday afternoon of this week by Rev. T. A. H. Laslie, pastor of the General Baptist church of Ava, in the presence of a large number of sorrowing friends and relatives. Following the services at the home the body was conveyed to the Ava cemetery for burial.

All of the children and his brother, Dr. J. F. Norman, were present at the funeral services.
