P-38 pilot killed during a bombing run when an explosion removed his two tail booms, causing the aircraft to cartwheel into the ground and blow up. The bomb which caused the explosion was dropped from his group leader into a small river. Lt Collier was flying at approximately 150 feet at the time.

Tommy was the youngest son of George Lee and Arlena Griffin Collier.
