R.R. Deignan, B17 Gunner, Killed in ETO
Staff Sergeant with Eight Army Air Force

Nineteen-year-old Robert R. Deignan, a staff sergeant engineer gunner on a B-17 bomber of the Eighth Air force, has been reported killed in action, March 3 over Germany. Subsequent communications between the parents of the crew of Deignan's plane, have disclosed that at least six met their death in the same action and at least one was wounded.

The young sergeant had been in the ETO since Dec. 1, having won his wings in September from the AAF base in Gulfport, Miss. His brother, Lt. James W. Deignan, a P-38 pilot, left for the Pacific theatre last week.

Sgt. Deignan was born in the town of Bloomfield, May 13, 1925, attended the Star Center School and graduated with the class of 1943 from the Lake Geneva High School. Prior to his graduation, he enlisted in the AAF as an air cadet and was called into the service in September. He left for overseas duty from Mitchell field, NY.
