Walter served as a Technician Fifth Grade, 4263rd Quartermaster Truck Company, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Goshen County, Wyoming prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 10, 1943 at Fort Francis E. Warren, Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Farm Hand and also as Single, with dependents.

Walter was killed in the "Line Of Duty" of a non-battle related truck accident in Belgium during the war.

Walter also has a "Cenotaph" in the Valley View Cemetery, Torrington, Wyoming with his parents.
