B-17G "Rugged But Right" in which Leonard was shot down Jan 1945 over Bartschendorf, Germany. Name might be "Queen of the Skies", too.

Kneeling L to R:
Sgt. Walterine A. "Tex" Moseley, Tail Gunner; Sgt. Eugene M. Johnson, Waist Gunner; 2nd Lt. Victor James Kendall, Co-Pilot; 2nd Lt. Emory Ross Hanneke, Pilot; Lt. Fred K. Getz, Bombardier

Their Boeing B-17G Fortress went down approx 40km WestSouthWest of Neuruppin, Germany.
All crew (except Pilot Hanneke & Navigator Johnson), were reported dead at crash site by German Command at Neuruppin Air Base. Hanneke’s body was not recovered (at least at that time), and Melvin Johnson was captured as a POW.
The bodies were buried in Common grave #1 of the Municipal Cemetery Bartschendorf, District of Ruppin southeast corner on 15 Jan 1945. After the war, the bodies were recovered and those not returned to their families in the US were interred in Ardennes American Cemetery in Neupre, Belgium
The same crew, except with co-pilot Roger M. MacKenzie instead of Vic Kendall, had also flown mission 242 aboard A/C 42-102673 (2102673) (Good Old Yank/Preferred Risk) to Mainz-Euskirchen the day before, 01/13/1945.
