Son of Mary Cook and Gabriel Alford, Husband of Dally Lewis Alford. James P. ALford, 82 of Whiteville died at Southeastern General Hospital in Lumberton early Thursday morning following a long illness. He was a native of Nash County and had lived here for 37 years, where he was a locomotive engineer for Jackson Brothers. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Laura Martin of Brunswick; three granddaughters and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at McKenzies's Chapel, with the Rev. A.D. Byrd officiating, assisted by the T.O. Lee, a former pastor. Burial will be in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. Star News 09/14/1962
