Private Dave Adams, ASN 3509830, born 31 Jan 1890 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, was the son of Nathan F and Amanda “Mandy” Jane (Spinks) Adams from Canehill, Washington County, Arkansas. Dave is listed as being from Hulbert, Cherokee County, Oklahoma. Hulbert is in northeastern Oklahoma 20 miles northeast of Muskogee and 60 miles east southeast of Tulsa.

In the 1900 census 10 year-old Dave is living with his parents, brothers John 18, James 12, Charlie 4, and sisters Mirti 14 and Bertie 2 in Canehill, Washington County, Arkansas. Canehill is 20 miles southwest of Fayetteville. His father is farming.

In the 1910 census 19 year-old Dave is living with his parents on the farm in Canehill with brothers James 21, Charlie 14, and sisters Bertie 12 and Oma 9.

Dave married Catherine "Katie" Matilda Thompson on 4 Oct 1913 in Washington County, Arkansas. Her residence was listed as Gabriel, Cherokee County, Oklahoma. She was 14 years old. Dave and Katie settled in Hulbert, Cherokee County, Oklahoma. Son Jesse M Adams was born 13 Aug 1915 and died two days later. Katie died two weeks later on 31 Aug 1915 (see headstone pics in replies).

On his 1917 draft card he listed his home in Gideon, Oklahoma. Gideon is 11 miles northeast of Hulbert. He was a self-employed farmer. He was single without dependents.
Dave was in Company L of the 56th Infantry Regiment of the 7th Division. The 56th sailed from Hoboken, NJ on 3 Aug 1918 on the army transport USS Leviathan (see pic in replies).

At the beginning of the Meuse Argonne campaign the 7th Division was in reserve at Saint Dizier, 48 miles south of Avocourt. During the Meuse-Argonne campaign the 56th IR was moved to the left bank of the Moselle River, the nearest American military unit to Metz. Soldiers of the Great War, Oklahoma, lists Private Dave Adams, from Hulbert, as Died of Wounds on 12 Oct 1918.

Muskogee Times-Democrat – 13 Nov 1918, Wed – Page 10 – HONOR ROLL – The names of eleven Oklahomans were listed in the casualty list given out by the war department for publication in the afternoon papers of November 13. There was no marine list given out. The following are Oklahomans: Died of Wounds, PRIVATES: Dave Adams, Hulbert.
