Alfred Herman Paulus Afflerbach was a Technician Fifth Grade in the United States Army, assigned to the 473rd (Combat Regiment) Infantry Regiment.
Alfred died non battle during the Transport to Port Lyautey, North Africa when the plane's engine caught on fire and they tried to land in the Tyrrhenian Sea. The sea was too rough and demolished the plane, on Aug. 1 , 1945. He is honored with a Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal.
