Ben was the son of Ben F. Tisinger Jr. and Nettie Ramsey. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, Texas. When inducted into the Army in 1942 he was a student at North Texas State Teachers College (now the University of North Texas ) at Denton, where he was a leader in work to aid underprivileged children.

Ben gave his life in a vain attempt to save his buddy who was wounded under terrific artillery and machine-gun fire when the line was forced back on a 250-yard front.

Memorial services were held in the First Methodist Church of Denton on April 8, 1945.
