Private First Class Charles W. Starina
of Kansas City, formerly of Galena, has been missing in action in Germany since February 25, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Starina, 5318 Cleveland avenue, Kansas City, have been informed by the war department.

Private Starina has been serving with an Infantry unit and had been wounded three times previously. He entered the army two years ago and has been overseas 10 months.

Mayo (left), son of Mrs. Bertha Carrico of Joplin route 3, is being hospitalized at O'Reilly General hospital in Springfield following wounds received in action on the Anzio beachhead. He served overseas 18 months, participated in seven major battles and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Private First Class Charles W. Starina, jr., (right), son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Starina of Kansas City, formerly of Galena, was killed in action in Germany February 25, according to information received last week by the parents from the war department. He had previously been reported missing in action. Private Starina would have been 21 years old March 23 and had served overseas since last May. He had been wounded three times, for which he had been awarded the Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a member of an infantry unit of the Ninth army. He enlisted in the army March 21, 1943.
