Robert Scott, son of Joseph Medfield Scott and Ellen Jamison (a Swedish immigrant), was born in 1920 or 1921 in Arizona. Mother Ellen died in 1926, when Robert was 5 or 6 years old, and two years later, in November '28, his father died, now remarried. Roberts stepmother could no longer support the family with three young boys, when in the 1930s everyone was left without work. Robert and his brother William then ended up in an orphanage in Laramie, Wyoming. Robert completed high school and joined the 376th Parachute Field Artillery of the 82nd Airborne Division in military service. He witnessed the invasions of North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Normandy until he was hit by German artillery cannons with a fatal end shortly before the Waal crossing on September 20 at the site of the Electric Power Station. He was killed after he arrived at a British tank on the Waalbank. His name is mentioned on the Waaloversteek monument. He has received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star medal.
It states f.i. that he was killed by German artillery fire when he arrived on a British tank at the electricity plant [on the southern banks of the Waal River], shortly before the Waal crossing [in canvas boats].
