Aviation Machinist's Mate Second Class Henry O Prather, Alabama, Service Number: 2684626, was on a operational sortied on a Naval aircraft which did not return on April 5, 1944. This was a highly decorated crew and when it became apparent they were lost at sea possibly due to action against the enemy their parents were notified by Lt. Commander J.R. Reedy.

During WWII, the US Navy routinely would wait a year before declaring missing seamen who were lost at sea officially dead, thus, the death reported by the graves commission.
