Captain Walter Paul Hottenstein was a pilot for Air Transport Command. At 16:02, on 31 March 1945, his Boeing B-17G 'Boots IV' collided with a Dakota C-47 'Skytrain' flown by 1/Lt Maurice F Thornburg causing the loss of both craft and all six souls aboard both planes.
