Jarold served as a First Lieutenant and Navigator on B-17 "Jerry Jinx" (#41-24607), 427th Bomber Squadron, 303rd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Bryan County, Oklahoma prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 22, 1942 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Bookkeeper and/or cashier and also as Single, without dependents.

Jarold was declared "Missing In Action", along with the entire crew, while on mission to Lorient, France when they had to ditch their plane in the Bay of Biscay after being downed by German fighters.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
