Born in Radwonke, kreis Kolmar, Posen, a son of Heinrich Gottlieb and Juliane (HARTWIG) PODOLL. Baptised 8 Jun 1833 in Chodziesen, kreis Kolmar, Posen. Immigrated before 1865.

Wilhelm married Augusta Vetter on 13 Jan 1865 in La Porte County, Indiana and this couple bore sons Albert and Richard, and daughter Ida.

Wilhelm 2nd married Mary Shedrow (or Schuttrow) on 4 Jan 1874 in Pulaski County, Indiana. This couple bore daughters Bertha H (Podell) Rater, Laura (Podell) Dressler, Fredricka (Podell) Dressler; and sons William Augustus Podell and Charles Podell.
