Died on Trolley Car.
John Bender, Over-Exerted Himself Running for Car.
John Bender, of Eden, died shortly after 9 0'clock on Sunday night on a Terre Hill trolley car. On Sunday evening, Mr. Bender attended services at Heller's Reformed church, with is about a mile from the trolley line. He was accompanied by Levi Raezer, if this city, and the latter's son. Me Raezer and his son were desirous of catching ash car and they ran ahead. The car was a few minutes late and and Mr. Bender managed to get there in time. Messers. Raezer and Bender sat side by side. Mr. Bender made the remark that his legs were good, but that he did not feel right about the chest.
The car left Mechanicsburg at 9 o'clock. About 9:14 o'clock Mr. Bender laid his head on Mr. Raezer shoulder, gave a few gasps and died. The body was brought to this city and conveyed to the patrol house in the city ambulance. Coroner Witmer and Dr. F. G. Hartman held an investigation and decided that death was due to heart trouble.
Deceased was born in Upper Leacock and was sixty-six years of age. He was the sone of George and Harriet Bender. In early life he was farmer and occupied the Batzer farm near Hinkletown. He later farmed one of the McGrann properties. For some years he was the owner and proprietor, of the Eden Hotel, until his wife died two years ago. Since that time he lived retired and boarded at the Eden Hotel. He had made a host of friends, who will mourn his death. He belonged to Heller's church and is survived by a step-son and several sisters and a brother survive him. Undertaker Groff took charge of the body.
