2nd Lt. Roland Wheeler "Wheeler" Ramey, 24, U.S. Army Air Corp, died Monday, 26 August 1946, when his P-47N Thunderbolt crashed at sea 25 miles offshore and west of Naha, Okinawa, Japan.

Born on Friday, 11 November 1921, in Calumet, Michigan, he was the son of Gen. Rufus Stanley and Frances Miriam (Meriwether) Ramey. He graduated from the US Military Academy, West Point, in 1945.

Wheeler is survived by his parents and two siblings, Stanley Meriwether Ramey, and Miriam Carrie Ramey.
