Olin "Tink" Boney was the first child of 4 to Bessie Grace (Miller) Boney and Peter Clane Boney. He was born 7 Aug 1921 on his mother's 19th birthday in Avon Park, Florida. He graduated from Ft. Meade, Florida High School in June 1941. He enlisted in the US Navy February 20, 1942 and was sent to Boston, Mass. He stayed at the Hotel Sumerset while attending Wentworth Institute (College for Engines and Engineering). After graduation he served on the U.S.S. Prairie for 9 months in the North Atlantic (New Foundland) and on the Destroyer U.S.S. Halligan, 584, 16 months in Pacific MM1/c. His ship was fire support unit 2 sailing along the southwest coast of Okinawa on March 26, 1945 when it hit a morred mine. The ship sank and half the crew, including Olin "Tink", were killed. He had married Lillian Mary Bret 20 Oct 1943 in Somerville, Mass. They never had any children.

"Tink's" younger brother Norris Stokes Boney had also served in the US Navy during the same time. His brother Norris was discharged from the Navy 6 months after the loss of "Tink".
