Lieutenant (Junior Grade) J. K. Boal, USN, was designated as Naval Aviator #6999 in 1941. Had graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 1937.
Married Miss Anne Louie Burden on 24 May 1939 in Yuma, Ariz.
Lieutenant Boal, as senor naval Aviator (SNA) aboard the light cruise U.S.S. BOISE (CL-47), failed to return from a scouting patrol while the cruiser was conducting diversionary strikes against Japanese picket ships, some 700 miles off Japan. The purpose was to draw Japanese attention away from the south Pacific due to the forthcoming Guadalcanal invasion.
Official legal date of death recorded as 04 Dec. 1945 due to the post-war attempts to confirm indications that perhaps Lieut. Boal, as well as his observer, had been captured by the Japanese in 1942.
