Corporal James Masson was born on the 26th of December 1912 at 73 Main Street, Perth. He grew up around the area of Bridgend living at 33 Main Street. His Parents were Adam Masson & Elizabeth Sime Davidson (Masson) His Siblings: Mary Gibb Masson (Moore) Adam Masson Jr, Helen S Davidson, Bill Davidson Masson & William Watson.

He joined the Gordon Highlanders 5/7th Battalion serving in France, North Africa, Sicily (James was wounded here) and then returned to north west Europe for D-Day. James survived the landings and took over a village called Touffreville and defended it against a counter attack. It was then on the 16th of June 1944 the Germans retaliated with a full frontal assault, their attempt to retake the village failed but was the most difficult time the Gordon highlanders faced during World War 2. Corporal James Masson was killed in action on that very day along with some of his brothers in arms, may he will always be remembered for his bravery and heroism.

Medals Earned: Military Cross, The 1939 to 1945 Star, Africa Star (8th Army), Italy Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal and the 1939 to 1945 War Medal.
