Paris Townsend Carlisle, IV, of Milford, son of Paris and Anna M. Vaules Carlisle, was killed in action in France, near Nantillors, along the Meuse River during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. October 6, 1918. Carlisle was 25 years of age, and served as a 1st Lt., with the U.S.Army, 319th Infantry Regiment, 60th Infantry Division. He was buried in the Muese-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-montfucon, lorraine, France. The Meuse-Argonne Offensive, headed by Colonel George Marshall, was one of the final WWI battles on the western front and was fought from September 16 until the November 11th Armistice. The Milford Fire Company was named in honor of Lt. Paris Townsend Carlisle, IV.
