Mrs. Clara Butts Dies at Chanute
--------------------------------
Mrs. Clara Lash Butts passed away Sunday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Minnie Cation of Chanute. She would have been 82 years old next May.

Mrs. Butts was bom May 28, 1859, in Kosciusko county, Indiana. She came to Kansas in early life with her parents who homesteaded near Humboldt. On July 8, 1880, she was married to Martin Butts, who died a number of years ago. She united with the church when she was nine years old, and helped build the Jeddo church in which neighborhood she lived.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Cation, Mrs. Margaret Thompson, Humboldt, and Mrs. Edith Thompson, Higgins, Tex.; one son, Olin Butts, Iola: 11 grandchildren including Mrs. Elmer Conover, of lola, and 11 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at the Chanute United Brethren church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be at the Maple Grove cemetery, east of Humboldt.

Clara was married to John A. Waugh between 1905 and 1920. She returned to her married name of Butts after he died.
