Her mother was Louisa Mellison Lockhart

Lawrence County Press, Thursday 29 October 1896

Mrs. J. M. Mullins on the 16 of October 1896, fell asleep in the arms of Jesus, the object and center of her hope.

She leaves a husband, three sons and five loving daughters to mourn her departure, to whom we would say, "weep not as those who have no hope". Our hearts go out in sympathy for the bereaved ones. Not only has a home been made to mourn, but our community realizes that it has lost a consecrated, Christian woman. During her illness, though her suffering can never be told, she without a murmur bore up and bravely met death in the triumph of a loving faith to God. She was truly a devoted wife and a loving mother.

Mother thou art bold and loving,
Gentle as the summer's breeze;
Pleasant as the air of evening,
As it floats among the trees.
