Casualty of WWII,John served as a Flight Lieutenant (Navigator) with 487 (R.N.Z.A.F.) Squadron, Royal Air Force.Service No: 47690.

He was 23 when killed on the famous raid on Amiens Prison in France as part of Operation Jericho-the low level bombing by De Havilland Mosquito aircraft to breach the prison walls, allowing French Resistance operatives to escape, many of whom were facing immediate execution.
He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Distinguished Flying Medal.

He was the son of Thomas Pearson Broadley and Irene Broadley(nee Adamson)

He was the 'blood brother' of Group Captain (Pilot)Percy Charles Pickard for whom he was the Navigator on this mission.
