His military service with the Confederacy shows he was a Private in Company E, 5th Calvary and was injured and hospitalized December 31, 1864 in Richmond, Virginia. Surviving his wounds he returned home to his family.
Eli and Mary Parks Brooks had 10 children before her death in 1895.

Mr. Eli Brooks died at the home of Mr. Wiley Lambert Sunday and the funeral was held at Brush Creek yesterday. He was about 83 years old.
