A Good Citizen Gone
Mr. Peter K. Snyder of Montgomery Passes Away at His Home.
Montgomery, June 5 - (Special)
Mr. Peter K. Snyder, the subject of this sketch, died Tuesday. He had suffered terribly for several days from neuralgia of the heart, until Sunday noon, when he became unconscious and remained so until death relieved him. Mr. Snyder was born at Easton, Pa., Aug. 20, 1825. In Feb. 1845, he was married to Miss Joanna Williams (although all records list Hannah), and in the same year they moved to Luzerne County. The following eight years were spent in Northumberland, Montour, Luzerne and Columbia counties. Since 1853, they resided in this valley. Mrs. Snyder died Feb, 5, 1883 of smallpox, of the smallpox epidemic at the Stone Church. Seven children survive him. They are Mr. William Snyder of Emporium, Henry of Lewisburg, Frank of South Williamsport, Mrs. Samuel Houk(Hauke) of South Williamsport, McCall Snyder, Mrs. Cal Shaffer and Mrs. Wesley Compton of Maple Hill. At an early age, Mr. Snyder united with the Lutheran Church and was a faithful member of that church until five years ago, when he joined the Methodist. The funeral services were held in the Methodist Church yesterday afternoon and were largely attended. The Rev. Mr. Mallalieu officiated, assisted by the Rev. R. G. Bannen, of whose church, Mr. Snyder was a member, while residing in South Williamsport. Interment was made in Fairview Cemetery

His mother was Susanna "Beischer/Pysher" whose burial is unknown. He was baptized in the First United Church of Easton on Jan. 21.1826, his maternal grandmother, Anna Catharine Pysher was the sponsor.

He married Joanne Williams in Feb. 1845 and moved to Luzerne County that year according to his obituary. She died Feb.5, 1883 of smallpox at the Stone Church. Seven children survived him, sons, William, Henry, Frank & McCall Snyder, daughters, Mrs. Samuel Houk, Mrs. Cal Shaffer and Mrs. Wesley Compton.
